Quick tips

  • Conversions run locally in the browser, so no model upload is required.
  • Material and texture fidelity depends on what the source format can represent.
  • For production-critical assets, open the converted file in your target DCC, engine, or slicer before delivery.

About GLB to OBJ conversion

Unpack a web-ready GLB into an OBJ mesh for Blender, Maya, CAD review, or manual cleanup; check materials and animation loss.

Free GLB to OBJ Converter is designed for quick browser-side preparation before upload, printing, modeling, compression, review, or handoff. Files are processed locally so you can keep lightweight jobs out of server queues.

How to use GLB to OBJ conversion

1

Choose a file

Select a local file from the upload area. The page checks the file type and size before processing.

2

Process locally

Run the tool in your current browser session without installing desktop software.

3

Download the result

Download the finished file and review it before printing, modeling, publishing, or handoff.

Why use this browser tool

Local-first processing

GLB to OBJ conversion runs in the browser, which is useful for quick files you do not want to upload.

No installation

Open the page and work immediately across devices without setting up a desktop utility.

Free output

No account is required for these browser utilities, and exported files are not watermarked.

Workflow-ready

Use the result in slicers, 3D viewers, editors, web pages, review threads, or delivery folders.

Format comparison

GLB

Binary glTF

A compact single-file glTF package for web, AR, game, and real-time 3D delivery.

  • Single binary file
  • Good for browser delivery
  • Can include meshes, materials, textures, and animation
  • Less convenient for manual JSON inspection

OBJ

Wavefront OBJ

A widely supported mesh exchange format for geometry, UVs, and material references.

  • Easy to inspect and edit
  • Broad DCC and CAD compatibility
  • Material files may be separate
  • No native animation or scene packaging

Choose GLB to OBJ when

Best use

Use it for Blender, Maya, mesh editing, CAD review, or a broad DCC exchange workflow.

What carries over

OBJ can carry geometry, UVs, normals, and material references, but animation and full scene packaging are outside the format.

Check before handoff

Open the OBJ with its MTL/textures beside it and confirm scale, normals, UVs, and material assignments.

GLB to OBJ print and handoff checklist

  1. 1GLB coordinates are meters

The GLB source defines linear units in meters, so the geometry is treated as meter-space on import.

  2. 2OBJ has no standardized unit

OBJ does not declare a unit; numeric dimensions are preserved but the scale is ambiguous to the next tool.

  3. 3No silent rescale

The converter preserves numeric dimensions; it does not force a millimeter or meter interpretation.

  4. 4Confirm scale in Blender or Maya

Check the import scale in your DCC tool so the mesh does not arrive at 1000x or 1/1000 the intended size.

  5. 5Bounding box is preserved

Width, height, and depth are measured from the mesh world bounds and carried into the OBJ.

  6. 6Y-up vs Z-up

OBJ is typically read as Y-up in DCC tools; confirm the up axis matches your pipeline.

  7. 7PBR materials become MTL references

Materials export as a .mtl file reference; full PBR metallic/roughness is not preserved in OBJ.

  8. 8Textures are external files

Image maps are referenced externally by the MTL; keep the texture files beside the OBJ.

  9. 9Animations are dropped

OBJ has no animation channel; skins, morph targets, and keyframes are not written.

  10. 10Node hierarchy is flattened

A multi-node GLB scene merges into OBJ objects or groups without the original scene graph.

  11. 11UVs are preserved when present

Texture coordinates carry into the OBJ so textures stay mapped if the source had UVs.

  12. 12Normals are preserved or recomputed

Existing normals are kept; missing normals are recomputed for smooth shading.

  13. 13Cameras and lights are ignored

Only mesh geometry is exported; GLB cameras and lights do not carry into OBJ.

  14. 14Watertightness check

If the OBJ will be printed later, confirm zero open boundaries and repair holes first.

  15. 15Non-manifold edges

Repair any edge shared by more than two triangles before print or simulation.

  16. 16Degenerate triangles

Remove zero-area faces so downstream tools do not error out.

  17. 17Winding conflicts

Fix flipped normals so shading and slicing read a consistent inside and outside.

  18. 18Wall thickness

If the OBJ is destined for print, validate thin walls against your nozzle minimum.

  19. 19Keep GLB for textured or animated delivery

If you still need PBR textures or animation, keep the GLB instead of converting to OBJ.

  20. 20DCC delivery checklist

Open the OBJ with its MTL and textures beside it in Blender, then re-check scale and materials in Maya or CAD.

Frequently asked questions

What is GLB to OBJ conversion?

Unpack a web-ready GLB into an OBJ mesh for Blender, Maya, CAD review, or manual cleanup; check materials and animation loss.

Is GLB to OBJ conversion free?

Yes. This browser tool is free to use and does not add watermarks to exported files.

Are my files uploaded?

No for these browser utilities. The supported processing path runs locally in your browser session.

What file size works best?

Smaller files finish faster. Very large images, videos, or 3D meshes may be limited by browser memory and device performance.

Will the output keep every detail?

The output follows the limits of OBJ. Materials, animation, textures, or metadata that the target format cannot represent may not be preserved.

Do I need to install software?

No. Use the page directly in a current browser, then download the processed result.
